In-car digital assistants: what do we really want?

November 4, 2019

Watching a demo of NIO's AI system, Nomi, opening the panoramic roof via voice command at #advancedengineering

I like NIO's approach and products, but I am not sure about some of the features. I know it is useful, and sometimes impressive, to demonstrate all the capabilities of the technology, but will people ever use these features? It is a simple button press to open the roof.

If we are spending resources on developing these features what are the features that we are not improving. What are the killer innovations / use cases we are missing?

Have we done everything we could to improve the navigation, media, phone, settings and ADAS?

Have we done everything we could in defining the main interactions? Have we got the system response times to match/exceed customer expectations?

I love automotive innovation, but the kind of innovation that makes the UX safer, easier and fun (in that order of priority).

What do you think about #innovation #design #userexperience in #automotive ?
